Legal
Helpline!!

To get access to professional legal advice in South Africa, one has to have the means to pay for a face-to-face consultation with an attorney or get help via Legal Aid which is a State funded legal service.  Legal Aid does however have specified qualifying criteria which excludes millions of South Africans from having access to legal assistance.

Monthly salary not more than R8 200 (Individual) or R9000 (Household) and value of moveable assets (car, furniture, household appliances and goods, clothes, etc) not more in value than R151 700 for those who own a house/R711 000 for those who do not own a house;

For those who do not qualify for the Legal Aid service, access to legal help requires legal consultation with an attorney firm.  The average hourly cost varies from R750 for a candidate attorney to a minimum of R2 500 for an Associate.

Introducing Legal Assist Helpline

Our Legal Assist Helpline is manned by professional, in-house, qualified legal advisors with years’ experience offering telephonic legal advice.  They have the patience and know-how to explain legal terms and processes to the layman.  The team is able to assist in most of the 11 official languages which also makes the legal service very accessible.

Topics range from debt and divorce to labour matters and domestic violence.  The service is available Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 – 13:00.

In addition, the telephonic advisor would peruse documents and correspondence and provide guidance and legal opinion.

Matters which require assistance by a practicing attorney will be referred to a panel attorney on the national database and the customer qualifies for a first 30-minute consultation, one letter of demand or a telephonic call to the party in question at no cost, at the discretion of the legal advisor.   The service is available based on the telephonic legal advisor’s merit assessment.
